Group Work in Sandtray Therapy

Join us for a dynamic 1 day virtual training that blends group dynamics theory, trauma-informed practice, and experiential facilitation into a deeply interactive learning experience. Whether you work with children, youth, or adults, group therapy offers a powerful way to build connection, process emotion, and support healing through shared experience. In this hands-on training you will learn the foundations and history of group therapy. Explore group formation, structure, and therapeutic rationale. Practice facilitating and processing sessions using a structured, stage-based model. Understand group dynamics, roles, and developmental differences.

Day 1

  • Describe foundational group psychotherapy principles and explain how they apply to sandtray group facilitation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to create and facilitate sandtray group interventions across the lifespan, in role play.
  • Differentiate between directive and nondirective sandtray approaches in group work.
  • Apply trauma informed principles to structure, pace, and contain experiential sandtray group sessions.
  • Evaluate ethical and cultural considerations in symbolic group work.
